At
last, a complete and properly documented discography covering Banner,
Regal, Domino, Jewel, Oriole, Romeo, and the many other dime-store
and mail-order labels produced by the Plaza–Regal–Scranton
group and its successor, the American Record Corporation.
This
volume draws on five decades' research and first-hand observation
of over 100,000 original discs by the late Billie W. Thomas and
other notable collectors and researchers, correlated with surviving
file data, and compiled and annotated by Allan Sutton. Features
include:
- Discographic
data for Plaza–ARC matrices 5001–11082 (recorded 1922
through 1931), including control-number-only issues and renumberings
of matrices from outside sources
- Details
of more than 32,000 U.S. issues, including pressings on non-Plaza/ARC
labels. (Foreign issues will be covered in a later volume.)
- Recording
dates and locations, remake sessions, release dates, take numbers,
accompanists and band vocalists, artist pseudonyms, control and
outside master numbers, composer credits, and other discographical
details
- Extensive
annotation of discrepancies and errors found in previously published
works
- Convenient
new format, with each issue fully detailed on its own line
- Illustrated
introductory history of the labels and companies
- Artist,
title, accompanist & vocalist, control number, and outside
matrix-number indexes
