Busy Bee Cylinder
Catalog

(1906)

From the Bill Bryant archive

The O'Neill-James Company of Chicago issued this Busy Bee cylinder list in 1906. The records were made by Columbia, and the inner taper was altered to limit use to specially modified Busy Bee machines (which were also Columbia products).

All of the records listed here are two-minute molded cylinders. Most use the same masters as the corresponding titles on Columbia XP records. However, some Busy bee cylinders use different takes by the same performer; entirely different recordings by different artist than those on the Columbia versions; or in a few cases, even recordings made by Columbia specifically for O'Neill-James, which are identified as "Busy Bee" rather than "Columbia" records in the spoken announcements. Research into these anamalous issues is under way in conjunction with an upcoming ACRP publication.
