Ajax was produced by the Compo Company, a Canadian manufacturer founded by Herbert S. Berliner (son of Emile) and was distributed by the Ajax Record Company of Chicago. Mamie Smith's star had faded by the time she signed with Ajax; they issued only six sides by her.
